Pushing Beyond the Character Limit (And How We Handle It)

Updated over a week ago

Overview

ChurchBee is designed to help you send beautifully designed, content-rich emails without worrying about technical limits. That said, some email systems and inboxes perform best when messages stay within a recommended character range.

To protect deliverability and ensure your message reaches recipients reliably, ChurchBee automatically manages long emails for you — without losing your content.

This article explains what happens when your email exceeds the recommended character limit and how we handle it for you.

What Is the Character Limit?

When composing an email, ChurchBee monitors the total character count of your message.

  • At 90 characters (and beyond), you’ll see a notification letting you know your content is getting long.

  • You can choose to:

    • Edit and shorten the message, or

    • Let ChurchBee handle it automatically (recommended)

This notification is informational — your email will still send.

What Happens When You Go Over the Limit?

If your email exceeds the recommended character threshold, ChurchBee automatically applies smart content clipping.

Here’s what that means:

1. We Host the Full Email for You

ChurchBee securely hosts the complete version of your email online.

You don’t need to:

  • Set up a landing page

  • Copy content elsewhere

  • Manage hosting or links

We take care of all of it.

2. We Send a Clipped Version in the Email

Recipients receive a shortened version of your email that includes:

  • The opening content

  • Your formatting and branding

  • A clear call-to-action at the bottom

This helps improve:

  • Inbox performance

  • Load speed

  • Readability across devices

3. We Add a “Read More” Link Automatically

At the bottom of the clipped email, recipients will see a “Read More” link.

When clicked:

  • They’re taken to the full version of your email, hosted by ChurchBee

  • The content appears exactly as you designed it

  • No login is required to read it

This allows you to send longer messages (announcements, devotionals, newsletters, updates) without sacrificing clarity or deliverability.

What Your Recipients Experience

From the reader’s perspective:

  1. They open your email as usual

  2. They read the main message

  3. If the content continues, they click Read More

  4. They finish reading the full email online

Simple, familiar, and friction-free.

Do I Need to Do Anything?

No action is required.

ChurchBee:

  • Detects long emails automatically

  • Clips content intelligently

  • Hosts the full version

  • Inserts the correct “Read More” link for you

You stay focused on your message — we handle the technical details.

Best Practices

  • Use long-form emails confidently — we’ve got you covered

  • Place important calls-to-action early in your message

  • Let the “Read More” link support deeper content, not replace clarity
